9/11 Museum: "Every Artifact is Evidence of Destruction"

The way that 9/11 is remembered will soon be transformed.
Located beneath a maze of construction at Ground Zero, the National September 11 Memorial Museum is taking shape and has made significant progress. Members of the media took a tour of the cavernous, 120,000-square-foot museum site on Tuesday.
The museum opening is slated for Sept. 11, 2012. Museum officials expect it to become one of the city’s most popular tourist destinations, drawing as many as seven million visitors a year.
The museum will be located beneath an eight-acre memorial plaza, which will open next Sept 11. The entire project will cost about $610 million.
. . .
“Every artifact is evidence of the destruction,” Ms. Greenwald said.
. . .
She also said that the contents of the museum could change over the years.
“We have to be somewhat nimble to remain relevant,” Ms. Greenwald said. “The museum will evolve—9/11 isn’t over.”

The implicitly loaded phrases in this story are ironic, “9/11 isn’t over,” etc.
It seems like it will be a horrible place to visit, an overload of death and destruction. It’s one thing to go to a holocaust museum or a POW museum, things that happened so many years ago, but this will be just 11 years in the past, when it opens.
And yes, will it include anything about B7?
“Jon Gold and I met up at the WTC when I was in New York City recently and we decided to pay a visit to the 9/11 Memorial Preview site. They sell a lot of stuff there, mostly hardcore propaganda. It’s hard to describe the disgust I felt being in that place. The reason I find “United 93″ so particularly repulsive is that 93 is the flight that Mickey was on. It makes me sick that they’re selling that garbage there but really, selling anything at all at that site is offensive.”
WTC steel columns to be installed at 9/11 museum
NEW YORK — Steel columns salvaged from the rubble of the World Trade Center are heading back to ground zero. Two 70-foot columns taken from the wreckage of the north tower are being permanently installed Tuesday at the entrance to the Sept. 11 museum. The 50-ton columns have three prongs and are known as tridents. They made up the facade at the tower’s entrance. For the past few years they’ve been kept at a hangar at John F. Kennedy International Airport with other material recovered from the destroyed World Trade Center site. The $45 million museum is being built below the 8-acre memorial plaza. It’s set to open next year.

New York Governor David Paterson, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, and Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver will be on hand for the installation at Number 7 World Trade. There will also be a discussion on the progress being made at Ground Zero ahead of Saturday’s ninth anniversary of the attacks.
