9/11 Suspect Held and Taped in Morocco 2002

A Yemeni man implicated in the Sept. 11 attacks was secretly detained in Morocco after Central Intelligence Agency operatives took him there in 2002, officials said Tuesday. Ramzi bin al-Shibh’s interrogation sessions in Morocco were videotaped and given to the CIA While the man, Ramzi bin al-Shibh, was detained in a prison near Rabat, Moroccan officials videotaped several of his interrogation sessions and gave the recordings to the CIA, the American officials said. The new details about Mr. bin al-Shibh’s detention, first reported Tuesday by The Associated Press, shed light on Morocco’s role as a holding site for suspected members of Al Qaeda captured by the United States.

When the CIA destroyed its cache of 92 videos of two other al-Qaida operatives, Abu Zubaydah and Abd al-Nashiri, being waterboarded in 2005, officials believed they had wiped away all of the agency’s interrogation footage. But in 2007, a staffer discovered a box tucked under a desk in the CIA’s Counterterrorism Center and pulled out the Binalshibh tapes.

December 8, 2008: Five High-Value Detainees Say They Wish to Plead Guilty
Five high-value detainees being held at Guantanamo tell a military tribunal they wish to plead guilty to charges related to the 9/11 attacks, but refuse to enter a guilty plea at this time. The five are alleged 9/11 mastermind Khalid Shaikh Mohammed (KSM); Ramzi bin al-Shibh, who helped coordinate the attacks; Ali Abdul Aziz Ali and Mustafa Ahmed al-Hawsawi, who assisted some of the 19 hijackers in Asia; and Khallad bin Attash, who attended a meeting with two of the hijackers in January 2000.

It’s amazing that you can find old videos of interrogations “tucked” under desks in offices called things like the “Counterterrorism Center”.
When I tried to originally post the story about the videotapes being destroyed, on the CIA wikipedia page, the segment was shuttled off to a non-existent page which they pretended was a real page, and then it was disappeared until the story blew over. I think even today there is no mention of the videotape destruction at all on their page, even though it is one of the most major events in the history of the org.
The CIA is really just miraculous.
Prisoner Abuse in Iraq, Afghanistan and Elsewhere

According to a report by MSNBC:
“more than one quarter of all footnotes in the 9/11 Report refer to CIA interrogations of al-Qaida operatives who were subjected to the now-controversial interrogation techniques. In fact, information derived from the interrogations is central to the Report’s most critical chapters, those on the planning and execution of the attacks.”
“At least four of the operatives whose interrogation figured in the 9/11 Commission Report have claimed that they told interrogators critical information as a way to stop being “tortured.” The claims came during their hearings last spring at the U.S. military facility in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.”
“We were not aware, but we guessed, that things like that were going on,” Philip Zelikow, the 9/11 Commission executive director, told NBC News. “We were wary…we tried to find different sources to enhance our credibility.”
“Specifically, the NBC News analysis shows 441 of the more than 1,700 footnotes in the Commission’s Final Report refer to the CIA interrogations. Moreover, most of the information in Chapters 5, 6 and 7 of the Report came from the interrogations. Those chapters cover the initial planning for the attack, the assembling of terrorist cells, and the arrival of the hijackers in the U.S. In total, the Commission relied on more than 100 interrogation reports produced by the CIA. The second round of interrogations sought by the Commission involved more than 30 separate interrogation sessions.”

The 9/11 Commission Report even includes this disclaimer on pg. 146:
“Detainee Interrogation Reports: Chapters 5 and 7 rely heavily on information obtained from captured al Qaeda members. A number of these “detainees” have firsthand knowledge of the 9/11 plot.
Assessing the truth of statements by these witnesses—sworn enemies of the United States—is challenging. Our access to them has been limited to the review of intelligence reports based on communications received from the locations where the actual interrogations take place. We submitted questions for use in the interrogations, but had no control over whether, when, or how questions of particular interest would be asked. Nor were we allowed to talk to the interrogators so that we could better judge the credibility of the detainees and clarify ambiguities in the reporting. We were told that our requests might disrupt the sensitive interrogation process.
We have nonetheless decided to include information from captured 9/11 conspirators and al Qaeda members in our report. We have evaluated their statements carefully and have attempted to corroborate them with documents and statements of others. In this report, we indicate where such statements provide the foundation for our narrative. We have been authorized to identify by name only ten detainees whose custody has been confirmed officially by the U.S. government.”
The official 9/11 account of the alleged al Qaeda plot is based largely on testimony obtained by torture, and the 9/11 Commission distanced itself from their own account; yet the 9/11 Commission’s narrative is accepted as authoritative by Establishment media, pundits and pols, and is used to justify the war crimes of the Bush and Obama administrations, and their actions which undermine the Constitution, such as warrantless wiretapping, indefinite detention without charge or trial, torture, etc.
