The May polling of 643 New Yorkers (including respondents in all of New York City’s five boroughs) by the independent Siena Research Institute shows meaningful levels of doubt and concern regarding the truth about what happened that day, with only 60 percent of New Yorkers ready to “move on”, and 48 percent in favor of the Manhattan District Attorney or New York City Council opening a new investigation into the collapse of World Trade Center Building 7.

The poll finds:

• 1 in 3 New Yorkers were unaware of Building 7’s collapse (the skyscraper was not hit by an airplane; it collapsed seven hours after the Twin Towers), only 25 percent have ever seen video footage of the collapse, and 86 percent were unable to name the building;

• Of those aware of Building 7’s collapse, 24 percent believe it was a controlled demolition that brought the building down, 23 percent are unsure, and 49 percent believe it was caused by fires;

• 36 percent of all respondents are inclined to believe critics who argue against the government’s explanation that the collapse was caused by fires, including a group of 1,500 architects and engineers who say no steel-framed skyscraper has ever succumbed to fire. Forty percent are inclined to believe the government’s account, and 23 percent are unsure;

• 48 percent of those polled are in favor of a new investigation into Building 7’s collapse, compared to 44 percent opposed and 8 percent who don’t know or refused to answer.

• 28 percent — more than 1 in 4 — believe the Twin Towers were brought down with explosives or some other demolition devices in addition to being hit by airplanes.

• In sum, 36 percent say they are “not satisfied that we know the whole truth about that day, and it is time to get to the bottom of what happened,” versus 60 percent who ten years later say they are “satisfied that we understand well enough what happened and it’s time to move on.”

The 30-second advertising spots produced for Remember Building 7 feature 9/11 family members, architects and engineers who call for more information about how Building 7 collapsed. (The spot, second in a series that began last September, may be viewed at www.RememberBuilding7.org) The spots are airing in the New York area through June 26 on fifteen different cable channels, including New York 1 News, MSNBC, CNN, Comedy Central, HGTV, Logo, Bio, MSG, YES, VH1, CNBC and Bravo, among others.

$100,000 used to purchase the spots was raised from contributions made through the RememberBuilding7.org site.

“As we approach the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy, it is important to note that there are significant numbers of people who still don’t feel their questions have been fully answered,” says Manny Badillo, Director of Outreach for the New York City Coalition for Accountability Now (NYC CAN), a co-sponsor of the Remember Building 7 campaign. The other cosponsor, Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth (AE911Truth), has gathered over 1,500 signatures from architects and engineers who say the government’s 2008 account by the National Institute of Standards and Technology of Building 7’s collapse is physically impossible, and that its fall was due to a controlled demolition.

Badillo, a former member of the U.S. Air Force, lost his uncle on 9/11 and appears in the TV ad. He says that the government has not answered 70 percent of 9/11 families’ questions about what happened that day.

“The story of 9/11 is not complete without the voices of patriotic Americans who question the official account of what happened on 9/11. Our world has never been the same since then – it’s time for more information,” states Badillo.

William Brinnier, a New York architect who also appears in the TV spot, notes, “It’s remarkable that 1 out of 3 people don’t know a third building collapsed on 9/11, but it’s encouraging to see that when they are informed of the 1,500 architects and engineers who question the government’s findings, more people support a new investigation than don’t.”

Brinnier lost a friend, WTC construction manager Frank DeMartini, who was responsible for rescuing people from the Twin Towers before his death there on 9/11.

The Pittsburgh Steelers running back on Monday tweeted: “What kind of person celebrates death? It’s amazing how people can HATE a man they have never even heard speak. We’ve only heard one side…”

Mendenhall didn’t hold back, even making a reference to the Sept. 11 attacks.

“We’ll never know what really happened. I just have a hard time believing a plane could take a skyscraper down demolition style.”

The Steelers felt compelled to act. On Tuesday, team president Art Rooney II released a statement.

“I have not spoken with Rashard, so it is hard to explain or even comprehend what he meant with his recent Twitter comments. The entire Steelers organization is very proud of the job our military personnel have done and we can only hope this leads to our troops coming home soon.”

Mendenhall, who profiles himself as a “conversationalist and professional athlete” on his Twitter page, turned some heads in March, as well, when he supported a comment by Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson comparing the NFL to “modern-day slavery.”

“Anyone with knowledge of the slave trade and the NFL could say that these two parallel eachother,” Mendenhall posted at the time.

Mendenhall is coming off a tremendous season, as he led the AFC champions in carries (324), rushing yards (1,273) and rushing touchdowns (13). He has 2,439 yards in three seasons since being drafted in the 2008 first round out of Illinois.

In the 2010 postseason, Mendenhall ran for 230 yards on 61 carries in three games with four touchdowns, as Pittsburgh defeated the Baltimore Ravens (31-24) and New York Jets (24-19), before falling to the Green Bay Packers 31-25 in the Super Bowl.

Among his other bin Laden tweets:

“I believe in God. I believe we’re ALL his children. And I believe HE is the ONE and ONLY judge.”

“Those who judge others, will also be judged themselves.”

“For those of you who said you want to see Bin Laden burn … I ask how would God feel about your heart?”

“There is not an ignorant bone in my body. I just encourage you to think.”

Mendenhall’s string of tweets ended around 6 p.m. Monday. He has not tweeted since.

Sports radio talk shows in Pittsburgh — and around the nation — were fielding calls on Tuesday about his comments.

Mendenhall has 13,631 followers on Twitter, and he personally follows 66. Included in the group he’s following is the Dalai Lama, comedian Sarah Silverman and the Park Community Church in Chicago.

For Gregory, awareness of the logical fallacies behind the official 9/11 story came early. “I was suspicious of 9/11 from day one,” Gregory recalled. “The way the Twin Towers and Building 7 fell just didn’t make any sense.”

Over the years, Gregory has independently researched the anomalies that contradict the official explanation of the WTC catastrophe, but he was not aware of a group of technical professionals that could confirm his suspicions. That changed on September 9, 2010, when he attended the press conference held by AE911Truth at the National Press Club in Washington, DC. Gregory sat in astonishment as Gage and other experts described the compelling case for controlled demolition.

“I was so amazed, because I had never seen the scientific evidence put together like that,” Gregory said.

Motivated by the work of AE911Truth, Gregory announced to the guests and media in attendance that he would be embarking on a two-year solid food fast for 9/11 Truth. “It was such a blessing to see you all take a stand that day,” Gregory explained, “and I wanted to add positive energy to your effort.”

Gregory’s declaration was so moving that Gage was overwhelmed with gratitude. “I was deeply humbled and honored to have a civil rights icon like Dick Gregory support AE911Truth directly and with such a strong statement of action,” Gage said afterward.

Those who may be concerned about the health effects of Gregory’s decision need not worry. As a vegetarian and nutritionist, he has maintained a minimalist diet for decades and performed hunger strikes for other controversial issues. When asked what his doctor thought about the fast, Gregory replied, “He’s been dead for 30 years.” We hope that his sense of humor follows him into the 9/11 activist work. We need it.

A few days later, on September 11, Gregory followed up by moderating a panel discussion in the “How the World Changed after 9/11” seminar in New York City, and since then, the response he has received from friends and colleagues has been tremendous.

“People have told me that they knew something was wrong with the official 9/11 story, but they didn’t know what to do,” he said. “Now they feel empowered by my decision to fast for 9/11 Truth.”

Even though Gregory has been a peaceful crusader for many causes, he believes the technical focus that AE911Truth has maintained will allow it to withstand the scrutiny and condemnation that has frustrated other activist groups. “The difference here is that mathematics is the same throughout the world,” Gregory said. “When architects and engineers see your research, it will make sense to them. Now those who feel inspired to share the truth with others have talking points that are backed by hard science and expert analysis.”

Gregory also sees potential in bringing the 9/11: Blueprint for Truth DVD to places of worship. “The churches of America are a strong force,” he explained, “and if we reach out to them with this kind of information, it will make a big difference.”

The continued collaboration between AE911Truth and Dick Gregory is expected to yield positive results in the near future. “We look forward to working with Dick on some important outreach projects in 2011,” Gage revealed.

Gregory expressed a similar optimism about the potential effect of upcoming events: “I hope my endeavors will bring greater visibility to AE911Truth and the explosive evidence that so many have yet to see.”

By stepping forward and taking decisive action in his own unique way, Gregory has reminded us that there are a variety of paths anyone can take to contribute to the push for an independent 9/11 investigation. Whether this means volunteering, distributing brochures, becoming a sustaining supporter of AE911Truth, or making personal sacrifices as an example to others, we all have the opportunity to create a distinctive impact. Just as it took thousands of workers with different skills to construct the WTC skyscrapers, it will take the combined efforts of prominent individuals and average citizens to awaken our fellow citizens to the truth about what really brought those buildings down – and secure justice for all of us that are so deeply affected.

Ellsberg is, of course, the former military analyst and famed whistleblower who smuggled the Pentagon Papers out of the Rand Corporation.

Senator Gravel is the person who read the Pentagon Papers into the Congressional Record. This act made the papers public record, so that they could not be censored by the government.

Ellsberg and Gravel are receiving a lot of media attention right now for their support of Wikileaks.

But little attention has been paid to Ellsberg and Gravel’s support for a new 9/11 investigation.

Ellsberg says that the case of a certain 9/11 whistleblower is “far more explosive than the Pentagon Papers“. (Here’s some of what that whistleblower says.)

He also said that the government is ordering the media to cover up her allegations about 9/11.

And he said that some of the claims concerning government involvement in 9/11 are credible, that “very serious questions have been raised about what they [U.S. government officials] knew beforehand and how much involvement there might have been”, that engineering 9/11 would not be humanly or psychologically beyond the scope of those in office, and that there’s enough evidence to justify a new, “hard-hitting” investigation into 9/11 with subpoenas and testimony taken under oath (see this and this).

Senator Gravel has long supported a new 9/11 investigation. Gravel told the Daily Caller this week:

Individuals in and out of government may certainly have participated with the obviously known perpetrators of this dastardly act. Suspicions abound over the analysis presented by government. Obviously an act that has triggered three wars, Afghan, Iraqi and the continuing War on Terror, should be extensively investigated which was not done and which the government avoids addressing.

Other high-level whistleblowers have alleged a cover-up as well.

For example, Air Force Colonel and key Pentagon official Karen Kwiatkowski – who blew the whistle on the Bush administration’s efforts to concoct false intelligence about Iraqi weapons of mass destruction – wrote (page 26):

I have been told by reporters that they will not report their own insights or contrary evaluations of the official 9/11 story, because to question the government story about 9/11 is to question the very foundations of our entire modern belief system regarding our government, our country, and our way of life. To be charged with questioning these foundations is far more serious than being labeled a disgruntled conspiracy nut or anti-government traitor, or even being sidelined or marginalized within an academic, government service, or literary career. To question the official 9/11 story is simply and fundamentally revolutionary. In this way, of course, questioning the official story is also simply and fundamentally American.

Indeed, Ellsberg and Gravel join a long list of high-level former officials in the government and intelligence services – including many well-known whistleblowers – who have publicly demanded a new investigation.

Napolitano recently discussed WTC 7 on his “Freedom Watch” program with fellow FOX host Geraldo Rivera and has also hosted Anthony Shaffer to discuss the Able Danger cover up.

The news of Napolitano’s 9/11 statements was first reported in a derogatory piece by Media Matters and then picked up by the staunchly anti-9/11 truth Huffington Post – perhaps in an attempt to make FOX look worse. As one commenter on the Huffington Post story noted “What’s interesting is that this article centers on a ‘FOX Host’ and not the families, engineers and architects requesting a new investigation.”

Chomsky told Press TV: “The explicit and declared motive of the [Afghanistan] war was to compel the Taliban to turn over to the United States, the people who they accused of having been involved in World Trade Center and Pentagon terrorist acts. The Taliban…they requested evidence…and the Bush administration refused to provide any. We later discovered one of the reasons why they did not bring evidence: they did not have any.”

In the years since 9/11, Chomsky has often been at odds with activists seeking accountability for the attacks, which have been used as justification for an ongoing global “war on terror” and continuing infringement of civil liberties. Chomsky has at times derided the cause and accused 9/11 activists of distracting from more important issues. In 2008, Chomsky added his name to a petition started by 9/11 family members calling for the release of classified documents relating to the 9/11 attacks.

John Pilger: “I think there is a lot of evidence that certain elements in the Bush administration, whether by intent or by or by their own arrogant incompetence, I don’t know, let things happen. I think there is enough evidence to…

We know the senior FBI people who gave warnings right throughout 2001. We know about the extraordinary inactivity by the NORAD aircraft on the day of September 11th. We know that Cheney was in charge of the White House on that day.

I think the most plausible is the “let it happen”, now at what stage it was let happen, I don’t know, I don’t know. But certainly that seems to me, the most plausible.

There is no doubt that 9/11 became the opportunity for a new “Cold War” basically, only called the “War on Terror”. But beyond that I wouldn’t want to…”
