Ray McGovern Bloodied and Arrested at Clinton Speech

As Secretary of State Hillary Clinton gave her speech at George Washington University yesterday condemning governments that arrest protestors and do not allow free expression, 71-year-old Ray McGovern was grabbed from the audience in plain view of her by police and an unidentified official in plain clothes, brutalized and left bleeding in jail. She never paused speaking. When Secretary Clinton began her speech, Mr. McGovern remained standing silently in the audience and turned his back. Mr. McGovern, a veteran Army officer who also worked as a CIA analyst for 27 years, was wearing a Veterans for Peace t-shirt.

CIA: If Caught, bin Laden Will Be Sent to Gitmo

WASHINGTON – If the U.S. captures top al-Qaida leaders Osama Bin Laden or Ayman al-Zawahiri, they would likely be sent to the Guantanamo Bay military prison, CIA Director Leon Panetta told senators Wednesday. This suggests that, given the choice, President Barack Obama would not try the men in the U.S. court system, opting instead for the Bush administration’s policy that the president has long criticized.

Shame On The Media, Shame Shame Shame

On January 31st, two acts of civil disobedience for 9/11 Justice were committed in front of the White House and 10 Downing Street respectively. Not one news outlet reported on it. Even a news outlet that promised me they would report on it, did not. The excuse given to me was that Egypt’s revolution was more important.

On that same day, the September Eleventh Advocates released a statement pertaining to 9/11 Whistleblower Berhrooz Sarshar. This statement asked that, “that the transcript of Mr. Sarshar’s interview be immediately declassified,” and that they respectfully request, “that the former Chairman, Governor Thomas Kean, Vice-Chairman, Mr. Lee Hamilton and the Executive Director of the 9/11 Commission, Mr. Philip Zelikow, promptly answer the questions herein.”

Peter Dale Scott Withdraws Endorsement of CIT

Like Richard Gage, I too was impressed by CIT’s assemblage of witnesses asserting an approach path of Flight 77 at odds with the official version, and said so. I have never believed that the 757 flew over the Pentagon, and have never stated that I did. In the light of what Gage has learned about CIT’s methods, I wish, like him, to withdraw my original endorsement of the CIT video.

Having read a few of Peter Dale Scott’s earlier books, I was looking forward to his new work, American War Machine. I was not disappointed. Published by Roman & Littlefield in late 2010, this book examines a wide-ranging number of covert US operations since World War II, and, among other things, demonstrates that many of these operations were intimately connected with, and dependent on, illicit drug trafficking

Richard Falk Speaks on the Post-9/11 World

Falk didn’t touch on the controversy until the end of the lecture. One man professed his disbelief at the accepted 9/11 story and asked Falk if he believed the official version of events. Falk chuckled. “I was waiting for the question,” he said. Falk responded by explaining he didn’t have the necessary knowledge to answer the question but said he felt there was enough “existential doubt” to re-examine the incident. “It can’t be dismissed by calling anyone who says there are some unanswered questions a conspiracy theorist,” Falk said.

On 9/11, Rumsfeld Fiddled While Cheney Ran the Country

In her interview with last night with former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, author of a new autobiography, Diane Sawyer asked him about a tough decision he had to make on the morning of 9/11. Was it not difficult, she asked, to order military pilots to shoot down passenger jets that the government believed to be hijacked and headed targets in Washington–maybe the White House, maybe the Capitol. For a moment, Rumsfeld dropped his generally arrogant stance, and instead looked as if he were about to cry as he recalled the agony he went through in making the decision.

It might have been a poignant moment, were it not for the fact that Rumsfeld didn’t make the decision.
