Artifacts destined for the National September 11 Memorial and Museum are now being stored JFK International airport’s Hangar 17. There’s a slideshow of photos at the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times has posted a panoramic view of the hangar here.
Bob McIlvaine and Tony Szamboti on Rosie O'Donnell Show
A description of the show from Rosie O’Donnell’s blog:
BUILDING WHAT
Rosie then introduced two callers – Bob McIlvaine and Tony Szamboti – who are supporters of Buildingwhat.org. Rosie read the purpose of “Building What” and how it’s an effort led by 9/11 family members to reopen the investigation of what happened to Building 7 on September 11th, 2001. She read from the website and said Building 7 fell at free fall speed with no resistance from the support structures as if the support structures had been removed. Rosie read the facts about Building 7 from their website and Pete read the list of the companies that were housed in the building. Rosie said Building What isn’t pointing the finger at any one organization or person for the collapse of the building, they’re just saying it defies the laws of physics and too many things have been swept under the table.
92% of Afghans Never Heard of 9/11
Fewer than one in 10 Afghans are aware of the 9/11 attacks and their precipitation of the war in Afghanistan, says a study from an international think tank. A report from the International Council on Security and Development (ICOS) shows that 92 percent of those surveyed had never heard of the coordinated multiple attacks on US soil on September 11, 2001. It also shows that four in 10 Afghans believe the US is on their soil in order to “destroy Islam or occupy Afghanistan.”
9/11 Rescue Workers Accept $625 Million Settlement
More than 95% of 9/11 responders who sued the city have accepted a $625 million settlement – meeting the number needed to seal the deal, officials announced Friday. City officials said 10,043 plaintiffs who claim they were sickened by toxins at Ground Zero accepted the deal. About 98% of the plaintiffs who are the sickest signed on. The plaintiffs’ payouts are determined by the severity of their illnesses.
Iran Calls for Trial of Those Behind 9/11
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has renewed his call to establish an independent fact-finding committee on the 9/11 incident, urging trial of those who engineered the event. The president emphasized that if US statesmen truly possess firm documents about what happened during the incident, as they claim, they should not fear the establishment of a fact-finding committee and can produce their evidence to the body for a probe.
UN Urges Full US Torture Investigation
The United Nations has called on the United States to conduct a full investigation into torture under the administration of former US President George W. Bush. […] The UN special rapporteur on torture, Juan Ernesto Mendez, urged Washington on Tuesday to prosecute offenders as well as senior officials who ordered the abuse of prisoners in Iraq, Afghanistan and Guantanamo Bay in Cuba. In his book, Bush confirms that he personally approved a request by CIA agents to use waterboarding and other forms of torture in the interrogation of so-called “terror suspects.”
Evidence for Informed Trading on 9/11
A new article from Kevin Ryan published on Foreign Policy Journal.
Just after September 11th 2001, many governments began investigations into possible insider trading related to the terrorist attacks of that day. Such investigations were initiated by the governments of Belgium, Cyprus, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Monte Carlo, the Netherlands, Switzerland, the United States, and others. Although the investigators were clearly concerned about insider trading, and considerable evidence did exist, none of the investigations resulted in a single indictment. That’s because the people identified as having been involved in the suspicious trades were seen as unlikely to have been associated with those alleged to have committed the 9/11 crimes.
Gitmo Detainee Acquitted of All But One Charge in NYC
NEW YORK — The first Guantanamo detainee to face a civilian trial was acquitted Wednesday of most charges he helped unleash death and destruction on two U.S. embassies in Africa in 1998 — an opening salvo in al-Qaida’s campaign to kill Americans. […] Prosecutors had branded Ghailani a cold-blooded terrorist. The defense portrayed him as a clueless errand boy, exploited by senior al-Qaida operatives and framed by evidence from contaminated crime scenes.
Geraldo: "Much More Open-Minded" About 9/11
A new television ad campaign featuring the family members of 9/11 victims has succeeded in garnering what 9/11 activists have lacked for years: serious treatment in the mainstream media. Granted, that media was Fox News host Geraldo Rivera, who in a former iteration ran a Jerry Springer-like daytime talk show. Still, at the end of his serious-yet-brief treatment of questions surrounding the collapse of World Trade Center 7 (WTC 7, pictured), Rivera admitted that the activists had made him “much more open minded” about questions surrounding 9/11. And all it took was the proper message.
