Loose Change Producer Arrested
“Loose Change” filmmaker Korey Rowe, 27, of Oneonta, was arrested Thursday by Oneonta police and charged with sale of heroin.
According to a media release from the police, Rowe was arrested with 19-year-old Daniel Marte Jr. of the Bronx after the two men sold seven packets of heroin to an undercover police officer.
Both men were charged with criminal sale of a controlled substance in the third degree. Marte was also charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree. Both charges are Class B felonies punishable by up to nine years imprisonment.
Rowe and Marte were arraigned today in front of Judge Lucy Bernier and remanded to the Otsego County Sheriff’s Department, which assisted with the arrests. Rowe’s bail is set at $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond.
Rowe, an Army veteran, produced the 2006 film “Loose Change,” a documentary questioning the official explanation of the events on 9/11. The film was written and directed by Dylan Avery of Oneonta.
In 2007, Rowe, then a soldier in the 187th Infantry Regiment of the U.S. Army, was arrested on a charge of desertion. He returned to his unit not long after his arrest. His father, Tom Rowe, said his son was honorably discharged.

Sigh. I don’t know Korey. I am more familiar with Dylan. It’s a shame that something like this happened. Loose Change was promoted by the media as our “Holy Grail” (even though a lot of people have been doing this a lot longer than Loose Change has been out). I wasn’t “turned on” by Loose Change though I know many people were. I hope the Rowe family gets Korey help.
That’s too bad — what a nightmare. So many vets have a long hard road ahead of them when they get back, and they don’t really realize it.

. . . Army-green tents dot the sandy landscape. Weapons, ammunition and army vehicles sit in the backgrounds. One photograph shows Rowe dressed in military garb and a helmet, sleeping in a foxhole.
“What we were doing over there was important,” Rowe said. “It’s important not only for us, but for the rest of the world. Terrorism has to be dealt with.”
Rowe, who earned his GED a year ago, said he never expected to be dealing with terrorism in a wartime setting.
He enlisted in the Army late in August 2001 and had just begun basic training at Fort Benning in Georgia when the Sept. 11 attacks happened.
The NPR blog that saw this worthy to post says this:
The stark idiocy of the Pentagon no plane theory discredits everything.
Dylan Avery posted this message from Korey on his Facebook earlier today:
“The following is my statement if you are interested in hearing it. I did not sell heroin to the undercover police officer as I am accused of doing. I was not charged for possession because I did not posses anything i should not have had…. This is an atrocity and I apologize to the community, my family, friends and loved ones. I will make every effort to make right this awful situation as fast as possible. Thank you to everyone who has shown me such great support in these trying times. I am working with my attorneys and can make no further statements this time.”
