Psychoanalyzing Dissent at the 9/11 Museum
9/11 Conspiracy Theories: Why They Exist and What Role They Play in Society
Professors Kathryn Olmsted and Michael Barkun address broader questions of why conspiracy theories exist and how they should be viewed in the context of post-9/11 communities. Both have written books on the subject and will discuss the psychological underpinnings of these theories, their historical roles in shaping public opinion and how we should view or evaluate their relevance today.
Kathryn Olmsted is Professor of History at the University of California Davis and author of Real Enemies: Conspiracy Theories and American Democracy, World War I to 9/11.
Michael Barkun is Professor Emeritus of Political Science at the Maxwell School of Syracuse University and author of A Culture of Conspiracy: Apocalyptic Visions in Contemporary America (Comparative Studies in Religion and Society)
